My Qualms with Vista!
I have been running Vista now for over a month on an HP Pavillion DV9500 Laptop with the following configuration:
- Intel Core 2 Duo 2.40 GHZ
- 2.00 GB RAM
- NVIDIA GeFOrce 8400M GS Video Card
- 500 GB HDD (2x 250GB)
Its a swift little configuration and plenty for Vista. Nonetheless, Vista is not giving me everything I would have expected! Whilte it is smooth and pretty, I am not seeing the advantage of it.
My Biggest Issue with Vista is that it was forced upon the public with no ability to use XP if one is purchasing a name brand new machine.
My other issues with Vista are:
- Networking rarely works properly and is far more difficult to configure. In other words it is a mess!
- It is a huge memory hog.
- It is pretty, but the price is too high in terms of memory and storage space giving me little in return.
- Security (the main selling point of Vista) is intrusive and a pain, so I turn it off. Right there goes Vista’s advantage because my computing experience is easier because the security features aren’t there. Sad!
- Incompatible with some software still. (Some developers don’t want to bother yet!)
- Vista won’t tell me how much improvement I’m getting from ReadyBoost.
- Mobility Center is not customizable & strange.
- Windows search was supposed to be this great improvement over XP’s Search. I am not seeing it and it is more complicated. I am an expert user and I am having a hard time getting my head around it – but why should I have to?!
- Windows copying still stinks. If there is a problem, Vista has as difficult a time with it as XP did and I might have to start all over again.
So, why would I want to run Vista? Unless I buy an Apple computer, I have no other choice and that is wrong!
